Rust…

It’s a plague around here, no doubt about it. I’ve been pretty lucky on the E30. I’m guessing the car was just well-built. The sealant has given up in a few spots, the ugliest one is the left upper apron. There’s a few layers of steel there, around & under the suspension turret. It’s hard to explain, so here’s a few pics:

What can you do, when they’re spraying salt all over the place for months at a time? It’s not just ‘rock salt’ (large ~1/4″ coarse chunks of road salt) either. To make things even worse, PennDOT has been using a liquid salt spray in combination with coarse road salt. I’ve heard ugly rumors that it’s fracking water from saline aquifers. While I’m sure toxic drilling waste isn’t any good for people, it’s even worse on cars.
